Kim Stephens - Kim Stephens enters her seventh year as the Head Coach of the Lady Pioneers basketball team. Coach Stephens is 158-21 overall as the Head Coach of the Lady Pioneers. In her seven seasons at Glenville, the Lady Pioneers have gone (112-10) in conference play

Last season under coach Stephens Glenville finished (35-1) overall and (22-0) in the league. This marked the second time GSU finished conference play undefeated during her tenure earning the MEC regular season Championship. The Lady Pioneers made their sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance where they would be Atlantic Region Champions. Coach Stephens 2021-22 squad produced an immaculate run in the NCAA Elite Eight Winning the 2022 NCAA Division II Championship. Stephens would be named the WBCA National Coach of the year, MEC Women’s Sports Coach of the Year, and earn the Furfari Award for the State’s top College Coach.

Also in 2021-22, Kim had Re’Shwna Stone be named the Division II National Player of the Year and MEC Female Athlete of the Year. Stone also earned All-American honors during the 2021-22 campaign. Both Re’Shawna Stone and Zakiyah Winfield were named to the All-MEC First Team. Two other Lady Pioneers would receive All-Conference recognition.

During the 2021 season, the Lady Pioneers and Kim Stephens went (12-4) overall and (10-2) in conference play. They finished 2nd in the Regular Season in the South Division of the MEC. They also fell in the MEC Tournament Championship to the UC Golden Eagles. It was their fourth straight season making it to the MEC Tournament Championship and the fifth straight season they made it to the NCAA Tournament before falling to Tiffin. Also in 2021, Coach Stephens had Zakiyah Winfield earn All-American Honors.

In 2019-20, she and the Lady Pioneers claimed their fourth straight MEC Regular Season Championship and their third straight MEC Tournament Championship as they finished with a 26-5 overall record and went 19-3 in conference play. They also punched their fourth straight ticket to the NCAA Tournament however it would end up being canceled due to COVID-19.

In the 2018-19 season, she helped lead the Lady Pioneers to a (30-3) season and (21-1) in the conference which was back-to-back 30 wins seasons (31-2 in 2017-18) as they claimed their third consecutive MEC regular season Championship and won back-to-back MEC Tournament Championships. They also earned their third straight NCAA DII Tournament berth. She was also named the MEC Coach of the Year in 2018-19 and won the Furfari Award this past spring which is the state's top college coach of the year. Again, this past season she was named the MEC Women’s Sports Coach of the Year for the second straight season. 

In 2017-18, GSU went (31-2) (22-0) which was the first MEC team to go undefeated in the league. The Lady Pioneers also won the MEC Regular and Tournament Championship and made the NCAA DII Tournament for the second straight year. And again she helped Paris McLeod take home the MEC Player of the Year Award for the second straight year. And in 2017-18 she was named the Mountain East Conference Women's Sports Coach of the Year. Kim was also named the MEC Coach of the Year in 2017-18.

During her first season (2016-17) at the helm of the Lady Pioneers, Stephens led the team to the MEC Regular Season Championship with a (24-6) (18-4) record and a berth in the NCAA DII Tournament. She was named to the WBCA Coaches Thirty Under 30 presented by Marriott Rewards® honorees for the 2016-17 season. That same season junior point guard Paris McLeod was named the MEC Player of the Year. Kim was named to the 30 Under Thirty Coaches Club in 2016-17. 

Stephens, who played her college ball at Glenville State and later joined the Lady Pioneer coaching staff as an Assistant Coach, was a team captain for the 2010-11 Glenville State team that won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. That season Stephens was also named the WVIAC Student-Athlete of the Year.   During her time at GSU, she made the WVIAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll during her junior and senior years. 

A native of Parkersburg, W.Va., Stephens graduated from Glenville State in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management with a minor in psychology. She earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Ohio Valley University in 2012 and is also a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Science Association. 

Before her previous stint as an Assistant Coach for the Lady Pioneers, Kim was a Graduate Assistant Coach at Ohio Valley University. She also spent three seasons at Sacramento State from 2013 to 2016.  She also has experience as an Amateur Athletic Union coach and as a camp counselor in basketball at camps such as the Future & Elite Sports Center. She resides in Glenville.Â
