Faculty Athletics Rep



Your Faculty Athletics Representative:
  • Serves as a member of the athletics board
  • Informs the faculty on important matters related to athletics as they affect faculty and student-athletes on the national, conference, and institutional levels
  • Reports to faculty governance the admission and academic progress of student-athletes46
  • Encourages faculty participation in setting the institution's position on proposed NCAA legislation
  • Solicits from faculty and staff student-athletes nominees for NCAA scholarship and awards


FAR Responsibilities Include:
  • Ensuring the academic integrity of the athletics program
  • 47The FAR should ascertain the academic integrity of the intercollegiate athletics program by reviewing and reporting on the academic preparation and performance of student-athletes.
  • Ensuring institutional control of the athletics program
  • The FAR should maintain oversight of compliance-related activities performed with the athletics department and coordination of the compliance-related activities of the campus units located outside of the athletics department.
  • The FAR should be directly involved in decisions that affect the fiscal viability of athletics programs.
  • Ensuring a quality student-athlete experience.
  • The FAR should be involved in the monitoring and maintenance of the personal well being of student-athletes.
  • The FAR should serve as an independent source of support and advice to student-athletes and his or all constituencies in the institution should recognize her activities.




Strategic Plan for the FAR
  • Support student-athlete's well being, achievement of academic success to the promotion of exemplary conduct.
  • Complete an annual survey that measures how well student-athletes feel they are being supported by faculty, students, and staff.
  • Collaborate with the coaching staff to increase the overall GPA of their student-athletes by a designated percentage based on their current student-athlete's overall GPA performanc
