Glenville, W.Va. - The Glenville State Pioneers are at home for the second straight week as they host the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State for Homecoming.
The Pioneers (3-4, 3-3) are coming into the game after suffering their fourth straight loss this past Thursday to the Alderson Broaddus Battlers, 19-7.
In last Thursday matchup Glenville State ran 78 plays for 371 total yards. The Pioneers finished the game with 105 yards on the ground and 266 in the air. The Pioneers defense allowed the Battlers to gain 313 total yards on 71 plays with 98 rushing yards and 215 passing yards.
Quarterback
Dante Roberts went 17 of 29 for 177 yards with two interceptions before leaving the game due to an injury. Backup quarterback
Ja'Quay Garmon went 6 of 14 for 89 yards and an interception.
Dante Absher was the leading receiver for the Pioneers as he caught seven passes for 65 yards while
Austin Ratliff caught five passes for 70 yards.
Dominique Gibson carried the ball 13 times for GSC as he rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown, his first touchdown on the season and as a Pioneer.
Earon Settles leads the Pioneers defense for the second straight week as he finished with nine total tackles and an interception. Linebacker
Devonte Brown had nice game as he finished with eight tackles and a TFL.
The first meeting between Glenville State and West Virginia State was back in 1962 with GSC falling, 20-0. However the Pioneers hold the advantage in the all-time series 29-25. Glenville State also had won seven straight against the Yellow Jackets from 2008 till 2014. The Pioneers fell last season at West Virginia State, 24-21, which was the Yellow Jackets first win since 2007 vs GSC.
Since both teams have joined the MEC in 2013 Glenville State is 2-1 against West Virginia State.
The Yellow Jackets come into the game after suffering a loss to #3 Shepherd University, 70-24. The 70 points set an MEC record, surpassing the 69 that Charleston scored in 2014.
WVSU's Matt Kinnick was limited to just 12-of-23 passing for 154 yards and one touchdown. The Yellow Jackets (1-6, 1-6) had just 35 yards rushing on the afternoon. Dennis Gardeck had 10 tackles for West Virginia State.
Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. from Morris Stadium.
