Pioneers Travel to Concord in Week Nine – Game Central

Glenville, W.Va. - The Glenville State Pioneers (4-4, 4-3) got back on track this week as they defeated the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State at Morris Stadium on Homecoming, 43-26.

It was a close game at the half with GSC holding a, 14-13 lead. However the Pioneers ended up outscoring the Yellow Jackets 29-13 in the third and fourth quarters as they went on to pick up the victory.

Dante Roberts went 28-of-38 for 281 yards and four touchdowns. Dante Absher led the Pioneers receivers with eight catches for 91 yards. DJ Williams caught four passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns while Austin Ratliff also caught four passes for 23 yards and a touchdown.

Dominique Gibson had 95 yards rushing to go along with his two touchdowns.

Earon Settles led the GSC defense with seven tackles and an interception. Rashaun Searles also had seven tackles to go along with a sack and a tackle for loss.

This week the Pioneers will hit the road on Saturday, October 29th as they travel to Athens, West Virginia for a noon kickoff with the Concord University Mountain Lions. This is also the last Saturday game of the season for the Pioneers as they host West Liberty next Thursday (November 3rd) and will finish up the season at Fairmont State on Thursday (November 10).

Glenville State holds a 40-38-1 advantage in the series against Concord. The Mountain Lions won the first matchup between the two schools which was back in 1927 as Concord won, 13-0. The only tie between Glenville State and Concord came in 1946.

The two schools didn't play in 2013 which was the first year of the Mountain East Conference, however since they have become members of the MEC the series is 1-1 with each team winning on their home field.

The last win GSC had at Concord came back in 2008 as they Pioneers won, 34-14.

Concord is led by Quarterback Brain Novak who ranks 5th in the MEC in Passing Average Per Game with 216.4 per game he also is ranked 6th in Passing Efficiency with a 119.9 efficiency rating.

Defensively for the Mountain Lions Zach Malone is the leading tackler with 72 on the year averaging 9.0 per game which ranks him 5th in the MEC.  

Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. from Callaghan Stadium.
