Box Score Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers picked up a big road victory at Concord University, their first since 2008, on Saturday as they defeated the Mountain Lions, 19-8.
Glenville State (5-4, 5-3) racked up 357 total yards and rushed for 224 yards while the Pioneer defense only allowed the Mountain Lions to gain 196 total yards forcing a turnover and had two sacks.
After a scoreless first quarter,
Dionne Jackson would put the first points on the board for GSC as he returned a Concord punt 96 yards to the endzone as the Pioneers took a 7-0 lead at the 9:23 minute mark of the second quarter.
The Mountain Lions would get on the board after a GSC fumble as JaVaughan Burrus scored on a one yard run, Concord then connected on the two point conversion as they took a, 8-7 lead over GSC into halftime.
In the third the Pioneers would retake the lead at the 10:48 minute mark as
Chandler Carrera hit a 39 yard field goal, his sixth field goal of the year, as GSC went up 10-8. Â
The Pioneers would add to their lead at the 6:10 minute mark of the third as
Eric Kyle scored from four yards out as GSC led, 16-8. Glenville State then add another field goal from Carrera, this one from 27 yards out, as the Pioneers went on to defeat Concord, 19-8.
Running back
Thomas Boles III had a career day as he rushed for a season high 153 yards on 20 carries.
Eric Kyle also had a nice game as he carried the ball 15 times for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Dante Roberts went 13-of-26 for 133 yards with his favorite target being
Dante Absher as he caught five passes for 46 yards.
Austin Ratliff had four catches for 43 yards.
Earon Settles led the GSC defense with nine total tackles while
Quintavius Twine finished with six tackles on the day.
Concord's Brian Novak did not play due to an injury as backup Garrett Cropp went 10-of-34 for 95 yards.
Glenville State will now have a short week to prepare for the West Liberty Hilltoppers this Thursday, November 3
rd at 7:10 p.m. on Senior Night from Morris Stadium.
