Glenville, W.Va. - Once again the Pioneers will look to bounce back this week after suffering a heartbreaking loss to the Notre Dame Falcons at home last Saturday on a Hail Mary pass as time expired falling, 34-28.
This week the Pioneers hit the road as they travel to Shepherdstown, West Virginia for a huge MEC showdown with the #5 Shepherd University Rams. The game can be viewed on American Sports Network (ASN).
This is the 58
th meeting between the Pioneers and Rams with the first game dating back to 1927. Shepherd holds a slight advantage in the series over Glenville State, 30-25-2. The Pioneers last victory over the Rams came back in 2010. Also since both teams have joined the MEC Shepherd is 3-0 against Glenville State.
In the game last week Glenville State ran 76 plays and racked up a total of 489 yards with 325 yard in the air and 164 on the ground while the Pioneers defense allowed Notre Dame to finish the contest with 547 total yards on 77 plays with 351 in the air and 196 on the ground.
Dante Roberts threw for 325 yards as he went 28-for-42 with four touchdowns. Roberts's favorite target on the day was
Dante Absher as he caught 11 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Austin Ratliff had a breakout game at wideout as he hauled in seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.
Thomas Boles led the rushing attack for GSC as he rushed for 95 yards on 10 carries averaging 9.5 yards per carry.
Eric Kyle totted the ball five times for 54 yards.
The GSC defense was led by
Earon Settles as he racked up 12 tackles while
Marcus Umu finished the day with eight. The Pioneers defense also forced two turnovers in the game.
Shepherd comes into the matchup with the Pioneers after having a bye week. In the previous week, week five, they defeated the Notre Dame Falcons, 38-17.
The Pioneers defense will have to deal with the #1 scoring offense in the MEC as the Rams are averaging 41.8 points per game. Glenville State will also look to find their running attack as the Rams not only have the #1 Total Defense in the MEC but also rank 1
st in Pass Defense.
GSC defense will look to do what they do best and try and get takeaways from the Rams as the Pioneers are 1
st in the MEC in Turnover Margin with a +11.
