Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer football team put up a great effort however it wasn't enough as they fell to the #3 team in the county the Shepherd University Rams, 38-7 on Saturday.

Despite the Rams winning by 31 points the game was much closer than the score indicated.

In the first half Glenville State would have the opportunity to strike first but
Chandler Carrera would miss a 37 yard field try as the game stayed scoreless.

Shepherd would find pay dirt first at the 6:14 minute mark as Jeff Ziemba hit Deonte Glover on a 14 yard touchdown screen as they led, 7-0. The Rams then added a 26 yard field goal right before halftime as they took a 10-0 lead into intermission.

The Pioneers would strike on their opening drive of the second half. A big kickoff return by
David Thomas gave the Pioneers great field position. Quarterback
Dante Roberts hooked up with
Dante Absher from 45 yards out to give the Pioneers their first points of the game pulling within three, 10-7. Â

Shepherd then stretched the lead to 10 points at the 9:10 minute mark of the third on a four TD run by Brandon Hlavach putting the Rams up, 17-7.Â

Shepherd added three more late touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Jeff Ziemba was able to hook up with receiver Billy Brown for two passing touchdowns and Deonte Glover was able to take in a rushing touchdown from inside the ten yard line for the Rams as they went on to defeat the Pioneers, 38-7.

The Pioneers finished with 235 total yards on 63 plays while the Rams racked up 439 total yards on 74 total plays.

Glenville State ran the ball well as they rushed for 121 yards on 30 attempts while the Rams did most of their damage in the air as they racked up 347 passing yards.

GSC was flagged seven times for 66 yards while the Rams had five penalties for 55 yards.

Dante Roberts went 12 of 32 for 114 yards and  a touchdown. His favorite target was
Dante Absher as he caught two passes for 50 yards and had the lone touchdown catch.

Dominique Gibson rushed for 70 yards on seven carries for the Pioneers.

GSC had a great defensive effort as
Earon Settles had a big day for the Pioneers as he racked up 16 total tackles while
Marcus Umu finished with six total tackles, three of them for a loss and also had a sack.
Demetrius Lofton also had a nice game as he had three sacks on the day. Overall the Pioneers defense held the Rams rushing attack to just 92 yards as they had 14 tackles for loss and five sacks on the day.Â

Shepherd's quarterback Jeff Ziemba went 27 of 34 for 334 yards and three touchdowns. Wideout Billy Brown caught seven balls for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Glenville State (3-3, 3-3) will now have a short week to prepare for the Alderson Broaddus Battlers this Thursday, October 13
th at I.L. & Sue Morris Stadium for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Â Â
