Glenville, W.Va. - The Glenville State Pioneers picked up a big road victory at Concord University, their first since 2008, last Saturday as they defeated the Mountain Lions, 19-8.
Glenville State (5-4, 5-3) racked up 357 total yards and rushed for 224 yards while the Pioneer defense only allowed the Mountain Lions to gain 196 total yards forcing a turnover and had two sacks.
Running back
Thomas Boles III had a career day as he rushed for a season high 153 yards on 20 carries.
Eric Kyle also had a nice game as he carried the ball 15 times for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Dante Roberts went 13-of-26 for 133 yards with his favorite target being
Dante Absher as he caught five passes for 46 yards.
Austin Ratliff had four catches for 43 yards.
Earon Settles led the GSC defense with nine total tackles while
Quintavius Twine finished with six tackles on the day.
Glenville State will have to have a quick turnaround as they host the West Liberty Hilltoppers this Thursday, November 3
rd at 7PM on Senior Night.
The Pioneer and Hilltoppers first matchup came back in 1924 with the Pioneers winning 28-0. However West Liberty holds the advantage in the series 28-43-3 over Glenville State.
Since both teams have joined the MEC the Pioneers are 1-2 against the Hilltoppers with their last win coming in 2015 at West Liberty, 41-14.
Glenville State is 3-2 at home vs. West Liberty with their last home victory over the Hilltoppers coming back in 2011.
West Liberty comes into the game after falling at home to #3 Shepherd University, 38-27.
Dakota Conwell had 226 passing yards while adding 55 rushing yards on 15 carries as the Hilltoppers (3-6, 3-5) finished with 345 yards of total offense and 25 first downs – the most allowed by Shepherd all season. Dan Monteroso was WLU's leading receiver with 68 yards and two touchdowns on seven catches while Osman Kargbo five catches for 43 yards.
GSC will have to try and slow down Conwell as he ranks 8
th in the MEC in rushing averaging 55.8 yards per game and he ranks 8
th in passing averaging 193.6 yards per game.
Defensively for the Hilltoppers Cliff Clark leads the team in tackles with 81 on the season. West Liberty also has 15 sacks and seven interceptions on the season.
Kickoff is set for 7PM from Morris Stadium this Thursday, November 3.
