Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer basketball team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated the Mountain Lions of Concord University on the road Wednesday night, 94-90.
Glenville State (1-3, 1-2) jumped out to a big lead, 17 points, at the 6:56 minute mark of the first half as
Terry Davis Jr. made a layup, 31-14. Concord (4-3, 1-2) would make a run at the end of the first half but the Pioneers still led at the break 46-33.
In the second half Glenville State would control much of the game however at the 11:41 minute mark the Mountain Lions would go on a 11-0 run as they pulled within three points of GSC 66-63 with a little over 10 minutes to play.
The Pioneers then made a run of their own and would make their free-throws down the stretch as they held onto the win.
Both teams shot the ball well as Glenville State shot 51 percent from the floor and 41 percent from deep and Concord shot 49 percent from the floor and 43 percent from behind the three-point line. However GSC had a huge advantage in the paint as they outscored Concord 42 to 24.
Jon Dunmyer scored a team high 21 points while
Brett Morris scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his third double-double in just four games.
Terry Davis Jr. chipped in with 15 points and had six assists while
Brooks Ely and
Jalon Plummer each scored 12 points in the contest.
Concord was led by Aaron Miller as he scored a game high 26 points.
Glenville State will now host the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise at 4:00 p.m. this Saturday, December 3
rd in GSC's first home contest of the season.
