Glenville, W.Va. - The Pioneers (5-5, 5-4) will end the 2016 season on the road this Thursday, November 10
th in the MEC Game of the Week as they travel to take on the Fairmont State Falcons (9-1, 8-1) in the Annual "Battle for the Bit" with kickoff set for 7:10 p.m. from Duvall-Rosier Field.
GSC heads into the matchup after falling at home to West Liberty last Thursday, 41-24. Glenville State racked up 479 total yards while the Pioneers defense gave up 458 total yards. Both teams had several turnovers in the game as with GSC turning it over four times with three fumbles and an interception while West Liberty had three interceptions.
Dante Roberts went 24-of-48 for 280 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.
DJ Williams racked up 107 receiving yards on seven catches and a touchdown while fellow wideout
Dante Absher caught seven passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
Senior running back
Eric Kyle had a big game as he totted the ball 21 times for 174 yards averaging 8.3 yards per carry.
Defensively for GSC
Earon Settles had nine total tackles while
Devonte Brown racked up eight tackles.
Demetrius Lofton had a nice game as he finished with seven tackles, with one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.
This is the 90
th meeting between Glenville State and Fairmont State with the first meeting dating back to 1909 with the Pioneers defeating the Falcons, 6-0.
However Fairmont State holds the advantage in the series holding a 46-40-4 record over Glenville State.
Since 2006 Glenville State has a 7-3 record against Fairmont State but since joining the MEC Fairmont State is 2-1 against GSC and the Falcons have won the last two matchups.
The Pioneers last win at Fairmont State came back in 2011 as they won, 36-30.
Fairmont State comes into the game after suffering their first loss of the season Saturday at #3 Shepherd University, 27-17.
Fairmont State had just 65 yards rushing, but the Falcons ended up with more yards of total offense and more first downs. Cooper Hibbs was 25-of-53 for 322 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Laurence King had eight catches for 148 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Porter led all players with 11 tackles.
The Falcons also have the #1 scoring defense in the MEC and they are also #1 in Turnover Margin +11.
FSU's signal caller Copper Hibbs is 2
nd in the MEC in Passing as he is averaging 258.0 yards per game and ranks 3
rd in Total Offense with 258.5 yards per game.
Kickoff on Thursday is set for 7:10 p.m. from Duvall-Rosier Field.
