Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State women's basketball team had a fabulous home opener as they defeated the UVa-Wise Cavaliers on Saturday by 25 points, 103-78.
The Lady Pioneers (5-1, 3-1) shot 35 percent from the floor and 35 percent from deep while UVa-Wise (6-2, 3-1) also shot 44 percent from the floor and 30 percent from behind the three-point line.
GSC had a big second quarter as they started to pull away outscoring the Cavaliers 26 to 9 in the quarter as the Lady Pioneers led at the break 46-32. In the second half of action it was all Glenville State as they picked up their first home win of the season.
GSC had a great defensive effort as they caused 26 turnovers and turned them into 32 points. The Lady Pioneers also outscored the Cavaliers in the paint by 10 points, 50 to 40.
Paris McLeod led the Lady Pioneers as she scored a team high 18 points and dished out three assists.
Brittany Jackson chipped in with 17 points before fouling out while
Courtney Davis had a monster game as she scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Kristin DesRocher scored 12 points as she went 4-of-8 from deep and
Erika Toney chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.
UVa-Wise was led by Kayla Mullins with a game high 19 points.
Glenville State will hit the road on Monday, December 5
th for a 5:00 p.m. tip-off with the University of the District of Columbia.
