Glenville, W.Va. - The Glenville State Pioneer football hits the road this Saturday, September 24th as they travel to Wise, Virginia to battle the UVa-Wise Cavaliers. The Pioneers are 3-0 (3-0 MEC) for the first time since 1994 which was under now Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez.Â

This is only the fourth matchup between the Pioneers and Cavaliers. Glenville State is 3-0 against UVa-Wise. Â

Glenville State comes into the matchup after a thrilling victory over the University of Charleston last Saturday, 35-28. The Pioneers offense ranks 3rd in the MEC averaging 447.3 yards per game while the UVa-Wise Cavaliers defense ranks 11th in the MEC allowing 482.0 yards per game.  Â

Glenville State has two running backs ranking in the top 10 in rushing in the league in
Dominique Gibson and
Eric Kyle. The Pioneers also had a great weapon in kick returner
David Thomas. Thomas, leads the MEC in kick returns averaging 32.1 yards per return.  Â

DJ Williams leads the MEC in scoring with 6 TD's receptions.  Â

The GSC Defense ranks 1st in the league in Turnover Margin, +7, they have caused three fumbles and eight interceptions on the year.  Â

Offensively last week against the Golden Eagles
Dante Roberts went 25 of 45 for 252 yards and three touchdown passes. Roberts also recorded a 10 yard rushing TD. Roberts, now has 10 touchdowns passes on the season. On defense
Earon Settles led the Pioneers with nine total tackles. Sophomore
Nick Lopez had a great day recording three interceptions tying an MEC record. The Pioneers defense accounted for five total interceptions, and one sack for six yards in the win over UC.  Â

UVa-Wise comes into the matchup after falling to #4 Shepherd University, 64-13. Â

The Cavaliers offense only tallied 267 total yards of offense while the defense gave up 649 yards on the day. However UVa-Wise was great in the red zone scoring all three times they made it.  Â

Carlton Griffith leads the Cavaliers rushing attack with 133 yards on the year and three touchdowns. Quarterback Brycen Lee has completed 61.8% of his passes going 63 for 102 for 536 yards and two TD's.  Â

Lee's favorite target has been Corey Hilberath as he has caught 14 passes for 74 yards and a touchdown while Jacobs Cousins has hauled in 11 passes for 168 yards.  Â

The GSC offense will have to deal with one of the best linebackers in the MEC in Zachary Blair. Blair, leads the team in tackles with 25 with 7 TFL's and a sack.   Â
