Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State women's basketball squad got a tremendous performance from junior guard
Paris McLeod as she poured in a career and season high 39 points, helping lift the Lady Pioneers past the Golden Eagles of Charleston 86-73 on Monday night.
Glenville State (14-2, 8-2) had a ruff night shooting as they shot 32 percent from the floor in the first half heading into halftime all tied up with Charleston at 33 all.
In the second half the Golden Eagles would claim a one point lead 35-34 at the 8:22 minute mark of the third quarter. After that lead by UC the Lady Pioneers went on a 16-0 run, with McLeod scoring 13 of them, taking a 51-35 lead as they never looked back claiming the victory.
GSC's defense forced 26 turnovers and converted them into 30 points.
The Lady Pioneers had just two players score in double figures with McLeod leading the way with 39 points as she went 13-of-28 from the floor and 7-of-16 from deep. She also grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists to go along with seven steals.
Odyssey Trussell was the other GSC player in double figures as she scored 16 points while
Erika Toney grabbed a game high nine rebounds to go with five points.
Charleston (5-11, 4-6) was led by Jordyn Peck as she scored 33 points.
Glenville State will hit the road on Thursday, January 19
th as they travel to Buckhannon, W.Va. for a matchup with the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
