Glenville, W.Va. - The Glenville State Pioneers would suffer their second straight loss on Saturday as they fell at home to the Rams of Shepherd University 84-79.
Glenville State (8-8, 5-7) in the first half would drill seven first three-points but still trailed the Rams at halftime by four points 37-33.
In the second half Shepherd would hit on four of its first six possessions as they built a 13 point lead over GSCÂ 47-34 with 17:05 to play. The Rams would build on that lead as they stretched it to 17 points at the 10:56 minute mark, 61-44.
However the Pioneers then went on a 21-8 run led by
Brett Morris as he scored 11 of them as GSC pulled within four points 69-65 with 6:27 left in the game.
The Pioneers would then cut the Rams lead to just one point twice late in the game but could not get a shot to drop as they came up short.
Glenville State finished the game shooting 47 percent from the floor and 41 percent from behind the arc while Shepherd shot 47 percent from the floor and 31 percent from deep.
The Pioneers also had a big lift from their bench as they outscored the Rams bench 27 to 10.
Brett Morris scored a game high 23 points with 20 of them coming in the second half to lead the Pioneers. Morris also finished the night with seven assists and seven rebounds to go along with three blocks.
Jalon Plummer scored 18 points off the bench for the Pioneers while
Brooks Ely chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds.
Shepherd (11-7, 8-4) had all five starters score in double figures with Winston Burgess scoring 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Glenville State will host the Blue Knights of Urbana this Thursday, January 26
th from the Waco Center with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
