Jaylen McNair's 37-yard touchdown pass to
Javon Butler in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference as Glenville State (3-4, 2-4) downed West Liberty (2-5, 2-5), 17-13. The win for the Pioneers was their second straight victory and third of the season.
This week the Pioneers return home to Morris Stadium as they host Fairmont State University on Homecoming in the Annual 'Battle for the Bit'.
Last Saturday, Glenville State had just 315 total yards of offense on 68 total plays with 183 of it coming in the air while West Liberty ran 75 plays and racked up 337 total yards. The Pioneer defense allowed just 84 rushing yards for the Hilltoppers while GSC ran for 132 yards on the afternoon. Glenville State won the turnover battle as they forced two interceptions. However GSC was just 3-of-14 on third-down conversion on the day while West Liberty was 9-of-17.

Jaylen McNair passed for 183 yards as he went 19-for-31 with two touchdowns.
Kentre' Grier was his favorite target hauling in six passes for 58 yards and a touchdown. Fellow wide receiver
Javon Butler caught five passes for 63 yards and the go ahead touchdown.
Thomas Boles III led the rushing attack for the Pioneers as he carried the ball nine times for 65 yards while
Dominique Gibson rushed for 50 yards on 13 carriers.
The Pioneer defense was led by
Earon Settles as he finished with 12 total tackles while
Andre Dalton racked up nine tackles and an interception.
Fairmont State (4-3, 4-2) comes into the matchup after falling to No. 2 Shepherd University last Thursday, 28-23. FSU held a 14-0 lead over the Rams however Shepherd rallied and scored the game winning touchdown with just 5:36 as they pulled off the comeback victory.
Shepherd had a slight advantage in rushing yards (176-131), passing yards (253-243) and total offense (429-374). The Rams turned the ball over four times on the night (two interceptions and two fumbles), but was able to come away with three interceptions.
Fairmont State's Young-Battle completed 14-of-34 passes for 243 yards with two touchdowns and three picks. Terrell Charles had 72 yards rushing and Brandon Boyd hauled in four passes for 79 yards. Stephen Turned led the Falcons with nine tackles, and Antonio Harris had seven solo stops (two for a loss) and also blocked a punt.
This will be the 90th meeting between Glenville State and Fairmont State in a rivalry known as the 'Battle for the Bit.' Since 2000 GSC holds an 11-6 record against FSU however the Pioneers are just 1-3 since joining the MEC. Fairmont State has won the last three meetings and defeated GSC last year 37-30.
Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. from Morris Stadium between GSC and FSU.Â
