Glenville, W.Va. - The Glenville State Pioneers hosted rival Fairmont State University in the annual 'Battle for the Bit' Saturday on GSC's Homecoming. Four quarters would not be enough for either team but FSU's Sam Keil drilled a 34 yard field goal in overtime as he helped the Fighting Falcons escape Glenville with an 18-15 win.Â
This week GSC hits the road as they travel to Urbana, Ohio for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Blue Knights of Urbana University.
In last week game, Glenville State (3-5, 2-5) didn't give up a touchdown in the contest while they racked up 306 total yards on offense while Fairmont State (5-3, 5-2) had 249 total yards on offense and scored six total field goals in the win.
Glenville State tallied 18 first downs while Fairmont State gained 19 first downs in the contest. The Pioneers were perfect in the red-zone as they went 4-of-4 while FSU finished 6-of-7 in the red-zone.
The Pioneers were flagged 11 times for 89 yards while Fighting Falcons had 65 penalties yards on six flags. FSU also had a big advantage in time of possession as they held it for 34:39 while GSC had it for 25:21.
Jaylen McNair threw for 202 yards as he went 16-for-30 with an interception.
Austin Ratliff hauled in five passes for 67 yards while
Isaac Myers had a big day catching five passes for 52 yards.
Dominique Gibson rushed for a game high 54 yard on 16 carriers and had the only touchdown of the afternoon.
Defensively for GSC,
Andre Dalton led the team with 12 total tackles and two pass break-ups while
Tristin Freeman finished with 10 total tackles.
Urbana University (3-5, 2-5) comes into the matchup after falling to No. 2 Shepherd University 48-14.
The Blue Knights gave up six sacks to the Rams on the day. Urbana offense was also outgained on the day 479 to 282. Green had 240 yards passing and one score for Urbana. Duray Hall had 10 tackles, and L.A. Kelly nine stops to go with a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
This is just the fifth matchup between the two schools and GSC holds a 3-1 advantage in the series since 2013. Glenville State's only loss to Urbana came in the first year of the MEC. The Pioneers have scored 40+ points in the last two games against the Blue Knights. GSC defeated Urbana 44-24 in the season opener.
