Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers had a strong second half as they picked up their 21
st victory of the season defeating the Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals on Thursday night at the Waco Center.
Glenville State (21-4, 15-4) are now tied atop the MEC standings with the Cardinals after the win.
The Lady Pioneers fell behind in the first quarter by eight points 17-9 at the 4:15 minute mark. The Cardinals would continue their strong play in the second quarter as they built an 11 point lead 33-22 with under three minute till halftime. GSC then finished the quarter on a 14-4 run as they pulled within one 37-36 at halftime.
In the third quarter the Lady Pioneers came out hot as they built a nine point lead 61-52 with 1:30 to play and would end up taking an eight point lead into the fourth.
In the fourth Wheeling Jesuit would cut it to four points early 64-60 at the 8:57 minute mark but Glenville State answered back going on an 11-2 run and never looked back as they picked up the 88-75 win.
GSC nailed 13 three-pointers on the way to the victory and their defense forced 18 turnovers scoring 27 points off of them.
The Lady Pioneers had a very balanced attack with four ladies scoring in double figures.
Courtney Davis led GSC with 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her 9
th double-double of the season while
Brittany Jackson went 3-of-5 from deep scoring 13 points.
Paris McLeod scored 12 points to go with four assists and six steals while
Kristin DesRocher chipped in scoring 11 points.
Wheeling Jesuit (20-5, 15-4) was led by Monica Burns as she had a game-high 31 points while Jaana Motton added 19 points and seven rebounds.
Glenville State hits the road this Saturday, February 18
th as they travel to West Liberty for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Hilltoppers.
