Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers surrender a late lead to West Virginia Wesleyan as they fell at home to the Bobcats.
Glenville State (11-15, 8-14) got off to a great start as they jumped out to a nine point lead 16-7 at the 12:14 minute mark. However the Bobcats scored eight points to end the half as GSC took a two point lead into the break 32-30.
In the second half the Pioneers continued their strong play and built a nine point lead 56-47 with under 10:00 minutes to play. West Virginia Wesleyan then mounted their comeback and went on a 12 to 2 run in the last three minutes of action as they took down the Pioneers 76-69.
Glenville State had a big advantage on the inside outscoring the Bobcats 40 to 26 while the Pioneers also won the rebounding battle 36 to 35.
The Pioneers had four players in double figures led by
Terry Davis Jr. and freshman
Darhius Nunn both scoring 17 points. Nunn's 17 is a new career high.
Brett Morris chipped in with 13 points and six rebounds.
Jalon Plummer had a nice night as he scored 12 points and grabbed eight boards.
West Virginia Wesleyan (13-15, 10-12) was led by Kevin Kangni with 18 points while Luke Layhew chipped in with 15 points.
The Pioneers will return to action next week in the MEC Tournament in Charleston, West Virginia on Wednesday, March 1st as the #7 seed and will take on #10 UVa-Wise at 6:00 p.m.Â
