Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneers basketball team suffered just their fourth loss of the season as they fell on the road Saturday afternoon to the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise.
Glenville State (18-4, 12-4) got off to a slow start as UVa-Wise started the game on a 17-5 run and eventually outscored the Lady Pioneers 31 to 17 in the first quarter. The second quarter was much of the same as UVa-Wise outscored Glenville 26 to 16 as the Cavaliers took a 57-33 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter GSC would outscore the Cavaliers 28 to 14 as they pulled within 10 points 71-61.
Early in the fourth the Lady Pioneers would cut into the Cavaliers lead cutting it to just seven points 71-64 but UVa-Wise would answer as they went on a 7-0 run building their lead back up to 14 points 78-64.
Again GSC would cut it to 10 points late but that's as close as the Lady Pioneers would get as they fell to the Cavaliers 87-75.
Glenville State shot 35 percent from the floor going 28-of-80 and shot just 25 percent from deep as they went 13-of-51 while UVa-Wise shot 43 percent from the field and 43 percent from deep going 7-for-16.
The Lady Pioneers had just two players score in double figures with
Paris McLeod leading the way with 13 points and five assists before fouling out of the game and
Courtney Davis scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds also before fouling out.
UVa-Wise (17-7, 12-4) had five players score in double figures with Kayla Carey scoring 19 points and had nine rebounds while Makenzie Cluesman finished with a double-double scoring 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Glenville State will return to action on Thursday, February 9
th as they travel to West Virginia State for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off with the Yellow Jackets. Â
