Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers went on the road Thursday night and defeated the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets 96-78 as they picked up their 13th conference victory of the season.
Glenville State (19-4, 13-4) outscored West Virginia State (11-12, 9-8) in every quarter except for the second.
The Lady Pioneers put up 96 total shots in the game and connected on 36 of them finishing the night shooting 37 percent while the Yellow Jackets shot 42 percent going 27-for-64.
Both teams struggled from deep as GSC shot 23 percent going 9-for-39 and WVSU shot just 19 percent hitting just 5-of-26.
Glenville State's defense forced 28 turnovers and scored 38 points off of them while the Lady Pioneers also outscored the Yellow Jackets in the paint 46 to 36.
Paris McLeod led GSC as she scored a game-high 25 points to go with six rebounds, five assists, and had seven steals on the night.
Tayana Stewart had a great night as she scored 16 points as she went 7-of-12 from the field.
Erika Toney and
Kaelynn Wilson both provided a lift off the bench for GSC as they each scored 10 points in the victory.
Courtney Davis grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds to go with just four points.
West Virginia State was led by Shealyn Shafer as she finished with a double-double scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Glenville State is on the road this Saturday, February 11
th as they travel to the University of Charleston with a 2:00 p.m. tip-off with the Golden Eagles.
