Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team got a big day from
Brett Morris as he and the Pioneers advance to the MEC Quarterfinals as they defeated the #10 seeded UVa-Wise Cavaliers.
Glenville State shot the ball well in the win especially from deep as they nailed 12-of-27 three-pointers in the contest.
The Pioneers jumped out to a seven point lead early at the 16:07 minute mark 13-6 over the Cavaliers. UVa-Wise would answer with a run of their own as they cut GSC's led to just three, 18-15 with 12:07 till halftime.
However GSC would end the half on a 23 to 14 run as they took a 12 point lead into halftime 41-29.
In the second half it would be all GSC as they would runaway with the game and go on to claim an 18 point victory over the Cavaliers 84-66.
Glenville State shot 55 percent from the floor while the Pioneers defense held the Cavaliers to 32 percent shooting. GSC also got a big lift from their bench as they outscored the Cavaliers bench 38 to 8.
Brett Morris led all scorers with a game-high 28 points as he went 11-of-14 from the field and grabbed nine rebounds.
Terry Davis Jr. scored 17 points off the bench and grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double and
Jalon Plummer chipped in with 11 points.
UVa-Wise was led by Taiwo Badmus as he scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. Â
With the win Glenville State gets a third outing with the #2 seeded West Liberty Hilltoppers on Firday, March 3
rd at 12:00 p.m. from the Charleston Civic Center.
