Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers lost in the first round of the NCAA DII Tournament as they fell to the number one-seeded Vulcans of California (PA).
Glenville State (24-6) got off to a great start as
Kristin DesRocher hit back-to-back three pointers as GSC took a four point lead 17-13 with 3:06 to play, however the Vulcans would score the last four points of the quarter as we were all tied up at 17 all after one.
In the second quarter the Lady Pioneers trailed the Vulcans 24-23, but GSC made a run as they outscored California (PA) 13 to 11 to end the half as they took a one point lead at the break, 37-36.
California (PA) had a big third quarter as they outscored GSC 26 to 19 as they held a 62-56 lead heading into the fourth.
In the fourth, California (PA) would add to their lead as they built a 15 point lead their largest of the game 83-68 with 3:52 to play. However GSC made a late surge and went on a 18 to 5 run to end then game but came up short falling by two, 88-86.
California (PA) had a big advantage in the paint outscoring GSC 62 to 34.
GSC shot 41 percent from the floor and 38 percent from deep as they went 12-of-31 while California (PA) shot 49 percent from the floor and went 0-for-1 from deep.
Glenville State was led by
Kristin DesRocher as she scored 25 points as she went 9-of-17 from the floor and 6-of-10 from deep.
Paris McLeod scored 13 points while
Maya Horne chipped in with 11 points.
Erika Toney also scored 11 points in the contest and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double while
Courtney Davis grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to go with five points.
California (PA) had four player in double figures and was led by Seairra Barrett as she scored a game-high 29 points and had 18 rebounds for a double-double while Shatara Parsons also had a double-double scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Glenville State's season now comes to an end after a great year.
