Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers scored 54 first half points as they claimed their 11
th straight win and 18
th straight at home as they defeated the Urbana University Blue Knights 92-51.
Glenville State (12-1, 8-0) had four players score in double figures and shot 40 percent from the floor while Urbana (7-5, 5-3) had just two players post double figures and shot just 32 percent from the field.
In the first quarter GSC jumped out to an early seven point lead at 11-4 by a quick five points from
Paris McLeod with 5:33 to play in the quarter. Urbana then went on a small run as they cut the Lady Pioneers lead to five points at the 2:11 minute mark 13-8.
However Glenville State ended the first quarter on a 10-4 run as they took a 23-12 lead after one.
The Lady Pioneers controlled the second quarter as they outscored the Blue Knights 31-16 as GSC took a 26 point lead into halftime at 54-28.
Glenville State continued the dominance in the second half as they outscored Urbana in the third quarter 20-9 and 18-14 in the fourth as the Lady Pioneers defeated the Blue Knights by 41 points 92-51.
Glenville State won the rebounding battle as they out rebounded the Blue Knights by nine 55 to 46.
The Lady Pioneers defense also forced Urbana into 25 turnovers and converted them into 32 points. GSC outscored Urbana in the paint at 52-38 and also had 31 second-chance points while Urbana had just 13.
Glenville State shot 40 percent from the field however they hit just 4-of-29 from deep for just 13 percent. GSC had a nice day at the free-throw line as they hit 28-of-36 for 77 percent.
Urbana shot 32 percent from the field and went scoreless from deep as they went 0-of-13. The Blue Knights finished 7-of-14 from the charity stripe for 50 percent.
Glenville State was led by
Paris McLeod as she scored a game high 19 points and four steals.
Bhrea Griffin scored 18 points off the bench for the Lady Pioneers to go along with three assists.
Erika Toney finished the day with 13 points and seven rebounds while
Courtney Davis scored 10 points and had eight rebounds in the win.
Urbana was led by Jazmyn Haley as she scored 14 points and had seven boards while Stefanie Davis chipped in with 10 points.
Glenville State (12-1, 8-0) will step out of conference play on Monday, January 8
th as they host Bluefield State at 5:30 p.m. from the Waco Center.
