Pioneer Football Returns Home in Week Seven, Hosts Hilltoppers of West Liberty on Homecoming

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer football team returns home this Saturday, October 13th as they host the West Liberty Hilltoppers at 1 p.m. on Homecoming from Morris Stadium.

GSC earned their second victory of the season last Saturday as they defeated the Concord University Mountain Lions, 41-35.

After trailing 15-0 the Glenville State (2-4, 2-3) rallied off 41 straight points as they held on to defeat the Concord University (1-5, 1-5).

Glenville State racked up 530 total yards on 66 plays while Concord ran 57 plays for 265 total yards.

GSC was 6-of-6 in the red zone while Concord went 3-of-5.

Mario Pender ran for 212 yards on the ground on 21 carriers with two touchdowns. J'Quan Anderson rushed for 83 yards on 14 carriers with a touchdown.

Jaylen McNair went 17-of-26 for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Trey Shuff hauled in four passes for 57 yards while Gary Bacon caught four passes for 42 yards. J'Quan Anderson caught three passes for 19 yards and two touchdowns.

For the Pioneer defense, Dominic Cizauskas finished with nine tackles while Daniel Robinson finished with five tackles and an interception. Ellis Lilly and Quintavius Twine each had an interception in the game.

West Liberty (2-4, 2-4) comes into the matchup after falling to the Shepherd University Rams, 26-14.

Brenton Colabella was 18-of-32 for 195 yards passing for WLU. Charles Westbrook was limited to 48 yards on 15 carries and had one touchdown. Cliff Clark racked up 18 tackles on the day with one sack. Logan Deri had 11 tackles and had an interception.

The series between GSC and WLU is tied at 9-9 since 2000. GSC is 2-3 against West Liberty since joining the MEC. The Pioneers defeated the Hilltoppers last season in a low scoring affair, 17-13.

Glenville State will honor several championship teams this weekend in the 1958 GSC Football team, the 1993 GSC Football team, and the 2008 GSC Football team. Again, kick-off is set at 1 p.m. form Morris Stadium.
