Football Travels to Concord University for Week Six Matchup with Mountain Lions

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State (1-4, 1-3 MEC) will hit the road this weekend Saturday, October 6th as they travel to Concord University (1-4, 1-4 MEC) for a 1 p.m. matchup with the Mountain Lions.

The Pioneers fell to the Yellow Jackets in week five at home, 31-17, on Hall of Fame Weekend.

Glenville State gained 311 total offensive yards with 151 coming on the ground in the contest while West Virginia State tallied 458 total yards with 285 in the air. 

Mario Pender rushed 25 times for 97 yards while also catching seven balls for a total of 75 yards and a touchdown. Jaylen McNair went 16-of-28 through the air for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Wideout DeQuan Hopkins hauled in four passes for 47 yards for GSC.  

Defensively, Dominic Cizauskas kept pace for the NCAA DII tackle lead by tallying 16 total stops, including one tackle for loss and forcing a fumble. Samuel Thomas added 11 tackles, Amede Vital had nine, and Wil Mayes finished with seven.

Concord fell last Saturday to the Shepherd University Rams, 61-21.

The Mountain Lions trailed 27-19 heading into halftime before the Rams outscored Concord, 34-2, in the second half to secure the win. The Rams piled up 576 offensive yards with the Mountain Lions collecting 286 over the course of the contest.

Kyle Akin threw for 152 yards on 7-of-18 passing with one touchdown.  Akin also led the Mountain Lions on the ground with nine carries for 47 yards.  Zach Malone recorded 14 stops on the day (eight solo, six assisted) with a pass breakup.  Ke'Shawn Hall added 10 tackles in the setback.

Since 2000, GSC is 13-5 against Concord and from 2001 to 2009 they defeated the Mountain Lions nine straight times. Since both teams joined the MEC GSC is 3-1 against Concord with the two teams not meeting in the league's inaugural season (2013). The Pioneers defeated the Mountain Lions last season, 48-28.

Saturday's kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Callaghan Stadium.
