Radford, Va. – The GSC Pioneer basketball team went on the road Monday and fell in an exhibition game to the Radford University Highlanders, 102-69.
Glenville State (4-1, 1-1) hit 11 three-pointers in the contest while Radford (4-1, 0-0) hit nine in the game.
The Pioneers jumped out to a fast start as they took a 9-6 lead over Radford at the 14:26 mark. Forward
Phil Bledsoe accounted for six of the nine points for GSC.
Radford then went on a 10-0 run as they took their first lead of the game at the 10:30 mark at 16-9. The Highlanders would hold a double digit lead over the Pioneers at 30-20 with under five minutes till halftime.
Glenville State then made another run and cut the deficit to just two points at 34-32 as
Phil Bledsoe drilled a deep three-pointer with under 3:00 to play. The Highlanders eventually took a six point lead into intermission, 41-35.
Glenville State started the second half on a 10-4 run as they knotted the game up at 45-45 at the 17:21 minute mark. However the Highlanders responded as they scored the next nine points as they took a 54-45 lead with under 15:00 to play.
The Pioneers tried to make a run and would continue to trail by nine, 60-51, with 12:28 to play. The Highlanders then went on and outscored the Pioneers 64 to 34 in the second half as GSC fell to Radford, 102-69.
The contest had three ties and two lead changes. Glenville State led for 3:21 in the contest while the Highlanders led for 32:26.
The Pioneers shot 38 percent while the Highlanders shot 51 percent from the floor. GSC finished the game shooting 30 percent from deep with Radford went 33 percent from deep.
The Highlanders had a big advantage on the boards out rebounding the Pioneers by 20, 48-28.
Glenville State had four players reach double digits with
Phil Bledsoe scoring a game-high 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds as he posted a double-double.
Kalin Johnson scored 14 points while dishing out two assists.
Darhius Nunn and
Davion Johnson each scored 12 points. Nunn dished out seven assists while Davion grabbed five rebounds.
The Highlanders had six players score in double figures with Carlik Jones leading the way with 15 points and six rebounds.
Glenville State (4-1, 1-1) will now prepare to travel to Fairmont, West Virginia for a matchup with the Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
