Louisville, Ky. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer basketball team was outscored 20-12 in overtime as they suffered just their second loss of the season on the road Monday to the Bellarmine University Knights, 104-96.
Glenville State (9-2) shot 36 percent from the field while Bellarmine (6-3) finished the contest shooting 41 percent from the floor.
With just 10 seconds to play in the contest the Lady Pioneers found their selves trailing Bellarmine by three, 84-81. However
Zakiyah Winfield netted a deep three-pointer as she sent the game into overtime as time expired as we were knotted at 84 all.
In OT Bellarmine started on a 10-3 run as they built a 94-87 lead with under two minutes left to play. The Lady Pioneers tried to mount a comeback but again Bellarmine would outscore them 10-9 down the stretch as GSC fell, 104-96.
Glenville State got off to a great start in the game. The Lady Pioneers rushed out early to a 17-7 lead in the first, GSC largest lead of the contest, with 3:39 to play
in the quarter. GSC ended up outscoring the Knights 25-17 in the first as we headed to the second quarter.
Bellarmine answered with their own run to start the second outscoring GSC 14-2 as they took a four point lead, 34-27 with 7:42 to play till halftime. The Knights eventually outscored GSC by 10 in the second quarter, 33-23, as the Lady Pioneers trailed, 50-48.
Glenville State won the third quarter as they outscored the Knights 17-14 as the Lady Pioneers entered the fourth holding a one point lead, 65-64.
The Knights won the fourth quarter outscoring GSC 20-19 and then again in overtime outscoring the Lady Pioneers 20-12 as Glenville State fell, 104-96.
The contest had 13 ties and had 11 lead changes.
Glenville State netted 11-of-34 three-pointers for 32 percent while Bellarmine hit just 4-of-21 from deep for 21 percent.
The Knights had a big advantage on the boards outrebounding GSC 63-44. The Lady Pioneers defense did force 32 turnovers and converted them into 36 points.
However, GSC committed 27 turnovers of their own and Bellarmine turned them into 29 points.
Glenville State had five players post double-figures with
Donasja Scott leading the way 18 points. Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 16 points and grabbed five
boards while
Emily Stoller also scored 16 points.
Courtney Davis scored 15 points and had seven rebounds while
Zakiyah Winfield finished with 11 points.
Bellarmine was led by Mikayla Berry as she scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Glenville State (9-2) will return to action on Sunday, January 6
th when they travel to Cheyney University for a 2 p.m. matchup.
