Lady Pioneers Host Concord Wednesday

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Lady Pioneer basketball team is set to host the Concord University Mountain Lions in an MEC conference game at 5:30 p.m. this Wednesday from inside the Waco Center.

Glenville State (6-1, 3-1) enters the game after picking up a 111-103 win last Saturday over the Rams of Shepherd University. Concord (5-2, 3-1) comes into the matchup after defeating the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets over the weekend, 85-71.

Glenville State Notes

The Lady Pioneers will look to continue their home winning streak on Wednesday. GSC is 28-0 at the Waco Center which dates back to the 2016 season. Glenville State leads the country and MEC in scoring averaging 110.7 point per game.

The Lady Pioneers are averaging 14.1 three-pointers per game which leads the MEC. Glenville State also leads the MEC and is 14th nationally in steals with 12.71 per game.

Emily Stoller is 2nd in the league and 5th nationally in scoring as she is averaging 25.4 point per game. Emily has scored the most points in an MEC game so far this season. She poured in 44 points in a road win at West Liberty back in November. She also has scored over 30 points in 3-out-of-7 game this season. Courtney Davis has posted two double-doubles this season.

Head Coach Kim Stephens earned her 60th career win earlier this year. Currently she is 43-5 overall in MEC league play and is 61-9 overall.

Concord Notes

Concord sophomore Riley Fitzwater, a Glenville, West Virginia native, is receiving some attention coming into the game. She was voted the MEC Co-Player of the Week for this past week after recording the MEC's sixth all-time triple-double in CU's game at WVSU. It was also the first triple-double in program history. Entering the contest versus GSC, Fitzwater is ranked first among all Division II players in blocks per game at 5.3. Her 14.8 rebounds per game are second in Division II and her 69.6 field goal percentage is also second in the country. Fitzwater collected her fourth career game of 20 rebounds and her second this season. Meanwhile, her 11 blocks were a career-best.

GSC will also have to deal with Concord's Madison May. May scored a career-high 32 points in the win over West Virginia State. Madison is 3rd in the MEC in scoring averaging 22.1 points per game.

The Mountain Lions are 3rd in the league in scoring averaging 79.4 points per game. Concord leads the league in blocked shots with 6.71 average per contest while Fitzwater leads the MEC in blocks with 5.3 per game.
