Walk-off Home Run Helps Lady Pioneers Split Double-Header with Notre Dame

Glenville, W.Va.  – The Lady Pioneer Softball team split a home double-header against Notre Dame College (10-14, 5-5) on Friday afternoon.

Game one went to the Falcons by a final score of 9-5. Game two belonged to GSC by a final score of 4-2

Ally Brown would take the loss in game one. Brown gave up nine runs on 13 hits and the Lady Pioneers only committed one error. Brown would strike out two batters, and also walk two.

Offensively, GSC accounted for eight hits that produced five runs. Paranda Uber led the way for GSC by going 2-for-3, including two-RBI singles in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kim Ellis would score twice, and Catherine Pelfrey, Ally Brown, and Hayley Olson would also score runs for the Lady Pioneers.

GSC took game two by a final score of 4-2. Tori Ward earned the win on the mound for Glenville State tossing seven innings and only allowing two runs. GSC would only commit one error in the field.

Offensively, GSC racked up four runs on eight hits. Scoring started in the top of the first as NDC took a 1-0 lead. However, GSC would tie it up in the bottom of the second inning behind a Catherine Pelfrey double that would score Hannah Wright. Wright would also leave her name in the box score as she hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

Notre Dame would strike right back in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at two. Extra innings stayed scoreless until the bottom of the ninth. Senior Hayley Olson launched a two-run walk-off home run to left field to give the Lady Pioneers the victory.

GSC (11-15, 2-8) returns to action tomorrow, Saturday March 31 at 12 p.m. as they host Urbana University in a double-header.
