Glenville, W.Va.  – The Lady Pioneer softball team split with visiting WV Tech (11-25) in a double-header at the Sue Morris Sports Complex on Wednesday evening.
GSC took game one by a final score of 1-0. Game two went to the Golden Bears by a final score of 4-3.
Ally Brown earned her 12
th win of the year in game one. Brown pitched 7 innings, giving up zero runs on four hits. The Lady Pioneers' defense was also perfect in the field.
The only run of the game was scored by
Hayley Olson in the bottom of the third inning.
Catherine Pelfrey singled to the outfield to score Olson from third base. Pelfrey's RBI single was the Lady Pioneers lone hit in the game.
Game two went to the Golden Bears by a final score of 4-3.
Tori Ward took the loss on the mound. Ward threw 3.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits. Defensively, GSC committed two errors in the field.
Scoring started in the bottom of the second inning.
McKenzie Edmonds would double to left field then go on to score on an RBI single by
Hayley Olson.
WV Tech would put four runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Hannah Wright would lead off the bottom of the fourth inning with a monster solo home run to left center field to cut the Golden Bears lead to 4-2. GSC would score another run in the bottom of the fifth as Wright would double to left field scoring Pelfrey; Tech would lead 4-3.
The final two innings would end up scoreless as WV Tech earned the win, 4-3.
The Lady Pioneers (18-20) return to action on April 14 as they travel to West Liberty University for a double-header. Start time is slated for 1:00 pm.
