Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State (1-3, 1-2) will return home to Morris Stadium for the second straight week as they host the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State on Saturday, September 29th at 12 p.m. It is also Hall of Fame Weekend for GSC as they induct six new members in the Curtis Elam Hall of Fame.
After winning the season opener the Pioneers have dropped the last three games. Last week, GSC fell to the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus in the I-79 Barrel Classic, 45-17.
GSC rushed for just 88 yards and had 256 total yards in the contest while Alderson Broaddus rushed for 185 yards and had over 540 total yards of offense.
The Battlers won the time of possession battle as they held the ball for 34:13 while the Pioneers had the ball for 25:47. Glenville State finished the day just 1-of-12 on third down conversions while Alderson Broaddus went 7-of-14.
Thomas Boles led the rushing attack for GSC as he carried the ball 13 times for 75 yards while fellow running back
Mario Pender rushed for 30 yards on 14 attempts and a touchdown.
Jaylen McNair went 12-for-25 for 163 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Back-up quarterback,
John Keffer, also saw some action as he went 1-for-4 for five yards.
Glenville State was shorthanded at the wideout position as
Javon Butler and Tre' Crutcher both did not play due to injuries.
Gary Bacon caught five passes for 53 yards while
DeQuan Hopkins caught three passed for 87 yards and hauled in his first career touchdown as a Pioneer.
Dominic Cizauskas led the Pioneer defense with 14 total tackles while
Quintavius Twine finished with 11 tackles.
West Virginia State (1-3,1-3) comes into the game after falling at home to Shepherd University, 27-7.
The Yellow Jackets were out gained by the Rams 528 to 332 margin, and the Shepherd defense held WVSU to just 88 yards rushing. Shepherd also controlled the ball for nearly 35 minutes.
WVSU'S Faustino Saucedo was 16-of-25 for 244 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Zach Pate finished with 85 yards and one touchdown. Moises Valcarcel had a game-high 17 tackles and Joe Stoneman was in on 16 stops.
The Pioneers hold the series advantage over West Virginia State 12-6 dating back to 2000. GSC has won seven straight games over WVSU from 2008 to 2014. The Pioneers are 3-2 against the Yellow Jackets since joining the MEC. Last season GSC fell at WVSU, 34-28.
