Lady Pioneers Return to Conference Play This Week

Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State women's basketball team returns to Mountain East Conference play tonight, Thursday, January 10th. They travel to Notre Dame College for a 5:30 p.m. clash with the Falcons before hitting the road for a 2:00 p.m. match-up on Saturday with the Urbana University Blue Knights.
 
The Lady Pioneers sit at 10-2 on the season and are 5-1 in conference play. In their last two contests GSC went 1-1. They fell on the road back in 2018 to Bellarmine, 104-96 in overtime, before defeating Cheyney University on the road by 60, 112-52.
 
Glenville State currently has four players averaging double figures with Emily Stoller leading the way with 23.2 points per game which is second in the MEC. GSC has scored over 100 points 32 times under Head Coach Kim Stephens and they lead the NCAA DII in scoring averaging 106.7 points per game.  
 
The Lady Pioneers lead the MEC in several categories in; 3-point Field Goals Made with 13.50 per game, Steals with 15.75 per contest, and Offensive Rebounds pulling down 20.58 per game.
 
GSC has had two freshman play important roles this season. Guard Re'Shawna Stone has had a stellar season thus far. She is averaging 15.6 ppg, pulling down 3.8 rebounds per contest, and is handing out 3.6 assist per game. Fellow freshman guard Zakiyah Winfield has also played strong this season averaging 8.4 points per game and grabbing 4.1 boards per contest.
 
Notre Dame comes into the match-up sitting at 7-5 (4-2) in the MEC and is coming off of a recent win at Ursuline College. The Falcons are 2-9 against Glenville State after falling in all three contests last season. This game will be the first time the teams have met since playing in the MEC Championship game on March 4, 2018.
 
Again on Saturday GSC will take on Urbana. The Blue Knights come into the game with a 1-9 (1-5 MEC) record and are coming off of a 99-62 loss at Ball State in an exhibition game. Urbana is averaging 66.7 points per game. Since MEC play Glenville State is 10-0 against Urbana.
 
Tip-off with the Falcons of Notre Dame College is tonight at 5:30 p.m., followed with Urbana is this Saturday, January 12th at 2:00 p.m.
