Pioneers Misfortune Continues, Suffers Road Loss at Concord

Athens, W.Va. – The Glenville State men's basketball team misfortune continues as they fall in a close contested game on the road Wednesday evening by three to the Concord University Mountain Lions, 93-90.

Glenville State (7-12, 2-11) shot 46 percent from the field and 43 percent from deep on the night. Concord (14-5, 9-4) shot 47 percent from the floor and 42 percent from deep.

Concord behind nine first half three-pointers raced out to a 12 point halftime lead over GSC, 53-41.

The Pioneers started the second half on a small 5-0 run as they pulled within seven, 53-46. But the Mountain Lions answered with a 17-9 run of their own as they took a 70-55 lead with 12:54 to play.

The Pioneers got hot from the perimeter as they outscored Concord 14-12, netting four straight three-pointers, but the Mountain Lions still led, 82-69 with under 8:00 to play. Jump to the 4:13 minute mark and CU held a 12 point lead at 86-74.

The Pioneers would continue to fight. GSC would pull within three after a big three-pointer by Elisha Mayberry, 90-87. After a good defensive stand, the Pioneers then got the ball back. However, they turned around and gave it right back to the Mountain Lions on a turnover as Tommy Bolte raced in for a dunk with 12 seconds left as GSC trailed, 92-87.

 Phil Bledsoe answered back with a three-pointer with just five seconds left pulling within two, 92-90. GSC was then forced to foul as they sent Jair Rogers to the free-throw line with four seconds to play. Rogers then went 1-for-2 and the Pioneers would get one last chance.  

Phil Bledsoe pulled down the rebound and raced up the floor but his deep three-point attempt would not go down as Pioneer ended up falling on the road, 93-90.

Glenville State scored 17 second chance points while Concord scored 13. GSC also won the rebounding battle 42-36.

Jamal Pollydore poured in a game-high 29 points and had four assists on the evening. Phil Bledsoe posted his 11th double-double of the season and 3rd straight as he finished with 18 points and 13 boards.

Elisha Mayberry chipped in with 17 points and six rebounds while Noah Frampton scored 10 points and dished out a game-high six assists.

Concord was led by Jair Rogers as he scored 23 points while David Mulumba chipped in with 20 points. Tommy Bolte, the Nations second leading scorer, finished with 19 points.

Glenville State (7-12, 2-11) will return home to the Waco Center this Saturday, February 2nd as they welcome the UVa-Wise Cavaliers. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
