Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Lady Pioneer softball team spilt a doubleheader with the Tigers of Salem University on Friday at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
Game one saw the Lady Pioneers score four runs in the sixth inning as they came from behind to defeat the Salem University Tigers.
Both teams went scoreless until the fifth inning. The Tigers scored two runs in the fifth off of three hits as they led the Lady Pioneers, 2-0.
Glenville State then took the lead in the sixth inning.
Karra Smith led the inning off with a double.
Cassidy Taylor then drove two runs in as Salem's catcher made an error as they knotted it up at 2-2. Then later in the inning
Tori Ward doubled which scored
Cassidy Taylor and
Kelsey Naylor as the Lady Pioneers won, 4-2.
Glenville State tallied four hits and committed three errors while Salem finished with five hits and two errors.
Ashley Fridley,
Karra Smith,
Ally Brown, and
Tori Ward all had a hit in the contest.
Tori Ward picked up her first win of the season as she pitched 2.2 innings striking out two batters while allowing no hits.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Pioneers tallied nine hits and committed just two error, however they ended up falling to the Tigers, 6-4. Salem University racked up 11 hits and committed four errors.
Salem jumped out to a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning. Glenville State jumped on the board in the second as
Kelsey Naylor homered to left field making it, 3-1.
The Lady Pioneers added a run in the bottom of the third this time as
Karra Smith singled to center field scoring
Ashley Fridley as they pulled within one run, 3-2.
Salem then went on to add three runs in the sixth inning as they defeated the Lady Pioneers, 6-4. GSC did manage to add two runs in the sixth inning.
Karra Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI while
Kelsey Naylor went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Celina Maberto pitched 5.0 innings as she picked up her first loss of the year. She gave up five runs on nine hits with one strike out.
Glenville State (4-2) will host West Chester tomorrow Saturday, March 2
nd at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
