GSC Softball Takes Two Games from Tigers of Salem University

Glenville, W.Va. - On Wednesday afternoon the GSC Lady Pioneer softball team went on the road and took two games from the Tigers of Salem University.

Glenville State registered 12 hits while committing three errors as they took game one, 5-4. Salem finished the contest with nine hits and four errors.

The Lady Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the third as Kelsey Naylor singled through the left side of the field as Catherine Pelfrey crossed the plate.

Salem then took a two run lead in the bottom of the third as they scored three runs on four hits and went up, 3-1.

Kelsey Naylor helped GSC pull within one run as she grounded out to first base however it would score Catherine Pelfrey for the second time in the contest, 3-2.

Glenville State then took their first lead of the game in the sixth as Paranda Uber singled up the middle scoring Kassidy Heavner and Kayla Letart, 4-2. The Lady Pioneers added another run in the seventh off of two hits as they went up, 5-2. 

Salem added a run in the seventh as GSC went on to win, 5-4.

Paranda Uber went 2-for-4 with two RBI's while Kelsey Naylor also recorded two RBI's.

Ally Brown picked up the win on the mound as she pitched 3.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out five batters.

Game two also belonged to the Lady Pioneers as they recorded eight hits while Salem had six hits as GSC won, 7-3.

Salem took an ealry 2-0 lead as they socred one run in the first and one run in the third.

Glenville State took the lead in the fifth inning as GSC scored three runs on three hits as they went up 3-2.

The Tigers then knotted it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth.

Karra Smith helped the Lady Pioneers break the tie in the sixth inning as she homered to left field.Then later in the inning Jeri Potter homered to left field scoring Kelsey Naylor as GSC led 6-3.

Glenville State then added one more run in the seventh as they took the second game, 7-3.

Jeri Potter went 1-for-4 with two RBI's while Karra Smith went 1-for-4 with a RBI homer.

Ally Brown went the distance as she pitched all 7.0 innings allowing three run on six hits and striking out six batters.

Glenville State (8-18, 1-7) will return to the field on Sunday, March 31st when they travel to Notre Dame College for a doubleheader with the Falcons at 1 p.m.
