Glenville, W.Va. – September 14
th 2019 marks not only the first win of program history, but tallied more goals in one game than the entire 2018 season. The Lady Pioneers outscored their non-conference opponent, Washington Adventist 5-1 in last nights match up.
GSC (1-2) attacked early in the third minute mark of the match as
Heidi Hunter connected with
Leighana Weaver to quickly break the scoreless draw. But that was not it for weaver, as she scored a solo shot less than two minutes later, leading the Shock, 2-0.
Before the end of the half,
Julia Lesko would take a penalty kick in the 30' with a quick answer back by Shock's Madelina Mejia. To end the half, the score would favor GSC 3-1.
Late in the contest,
Tobi Short would push the advantage to 4-1 after corralling the pass and striking for a goal. The Lady Pioneers would then add one more off set by Shian Perry in the 89' with a free kick to take the match 5-1.
GSC tied in shots on goal with Washington Adventist tallying at 13 a piece.
Morgan Smailes would maintain the back end with seven saves and help from
Alyssa Banks totaling eight saves.
