Three’s Rain Down as Pioneers Win on the Road at Concord

Athens, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneers netted 17 three-pointers while freshman Steven Verplancken scored a career-high 30 points as they defeated the Concord University Mountain Lions, 104-75.
 
How It Happened
 
First Quarter:
 
Steven Verplancken opened the contest on a short 5-0 run himself starting with a layup and three ball from Ty Robinson.
 
From there, Concord put a triple on the board. Shortly after, both Phil Bledsoe and Najee Scott hit back to back shots from deep to sit 13-7.
 
The Pioneers then rolled away on a 10-3 run to lead 23-10. Both teams traded baskets at eight a piece before the Blue and White made separation leading 40-21 with buckets by Noah Frampton, Hegel Augustin, Bledsoe and Verplancken.
 
Augustin sunk a three ball with a dunk as Verplancken added a layup to maintain their double-digit lead at 49-23.
 
Concord answered back on a 7-0 run before Augustin hit a jumper to end the half leading 51-30.
 
At the half, the Pioneers shot 58% from the floor and 7-for-14 from behind the arc as the Mountain Lions were 12-for-30 from the floor and 27% from deep.
 
Second Half:
 
The Pioneers came back out in the second and went on a 12-9 run as they took a 64-39 lead with 16:45 left to play.
 
Then GSC made another run this time outscoring CU 8-3 capped off by a Noah Frampton three-pointer as the Pioneers led by 20, 72-42 with 12:46 to play.
Concord made a slight run outscoring GSC 18-15 however the Pioneers still held a big lead at 87-60 with 6:40 left in the contest.
 
The Pioneers never looked back as they went on and claimed the 29-point victory, 104-75.
 
Inside the Box Score

Glenville State finished the contest shooting 54% from the floor while they went 17-for-36 from deep for 47%. Concord shot 42% from the field and 30% from deep.
 
The Pioneers also scored 25 points off of 16 Concord turnovers.
 
GSC had five players score in double figures with Steven Verplancken scoring a game-high 30 points while also pulling down seven rebounds. Phil Bledsoe scored 24 points and grabbed eight boards.
 
Hegel Augustin posted 17 points while also having seven rebounds. Noah Frampton scored 14 points and Najee Scott finished with 13 points.
 
Malik Johnson led CU with 21 points in 30 minute of action.
 
Coming Up
 
The Pioneers will now prepare for the MEC Tournament in Wheeling, W.Va. at the WesBanco Arena this coming week. Glenville State earned the No. 6 seed and will take on the No. 3 seeded Fighting Falcons of Fairmont State University on Friday, March 6th at 2:15 p.m.
