GSC Comes up Short to FSU in Final Seconds

Frostburg, MD – GSC fell to Frostburg State on the road 74-72 late in the contest as the Pioneers let their one-point lead slip within the final seconds.
 
Steven Verplancken knotted his second career double-double of the season tallying team high 20 points and 11 rebounds and five assists.
 
How It Happened
 
First Half:
 
The Pioneers fell early in the first 5-2 before a basket by Steven Verplancken would pull GSC within one. Frostburg would add a jumper to sway past 4-7.
 
The Blue and White would continue to pull within one with buckets by Seth Fallon and dunk by Jaeger Martino. Fallon would then find the net form behind the arc to tie the contest at 11 all.
 
 The Pioneers would gain their first lead of the contest as Najee Scott would convert a freebie from the stripe at 14-13 with under 12 minutes remaining in the half.  
 
The Bobcats would detach from the Pioneers by entering a 10-0 run but slowed down as Hegel Augustin would sink a long ranged ball for three.
 
Augustin continued by converting three balls from the stripe to pull within three of FSU.  The Bobcats would respond on a 7-0 run to gain a ten-point advantage
 
GSC then entered an 8-0 run to tie the contest at 30 all with Augustin's layup and double-bonus from Verplancken.
 
The lead would trade hands over foul shots to end the half as Bobcats lead 36-35.
 
The Pioneers shot just 10-for-35 from the floor and 15% from behind the arc where FSU shot 39% from the field and 10% from deep.
 
Second Half:
 
Out of the half, the Pioneers gained a 41-38 lead as Ty Robinson would go on a short 6-2 run himself.
 
GSC continued to lead within the first five minutes but FSU then surpassed the Blue and White on a layup at 46-45.
 
Augustin's free throw would keep the contest knotted at 46 all then dunk assisted by Verplancken would push the Pioneers back to a two-point lead.
 
The lead would again swop benches until the Bobcats gained a six-point lead with ten minutes remaining in the match at 56-50.
 
The Pioneers would eventually fall by nine at 67-58 until Noah Frampton's three-point conversion would build GSC's momentum.
 
Steven Verplancken then added a layup to pull Glenville State within one at 67-66. With two minutes remaining the race would be tied up again at 69 all then surpassed with Verplancken's jumper.
 
Bobcat's Desmond Rene tied the game a 71 all by sinking a layup with one-minute remaining. Verplancken would a freebie to lead 72-71
 
At the 10 second mark, Frostburg added a layup to regain the lead 73-72 then a pair of freebies at the stripe to take the game 74-72.
 
Inside The Box Score  
 
The Pioneers shot just 32% from the floor and 4-for-31 from behind the arc, out rebounding the Bobcats 58-42 and scoring 21 second chance points.
 
Hegel Augustin added another double-double to his career and second back to back scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds.
 
Ty Robinson shot 3-for-5 from the field and 5-for-6 at the stripe to tally 11 points on the night.
 
Frostburg State shot 40% from the field and and just 3-for-18 from deep leading the contest 63% of the match.
 
The Bobcats were lead by Daniel Alexander who totaled 23 points and ten rebounds.
