Glenville, W.Va. - The No. 1 seeded Glenville State Lady Pioneers (19-3) MEC Tournament Quarterfinal matchup is now set as they will take on the No. 9 seeded Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State (10-19) on Thursday, March 5th at 6 p.m. from inside the WesBanco Arena.

GSC is coming into the MEC Tournament after winning their fourth consecutive regular season championship. The Lady Pioneers fell in the final regular season game on the road at Concord University, 103-102.

Glenville State is the highest scoring team in the nation averaging 108.5 points per contest. The Lady Pioneers are also 10-3 all-time in the MEC Tournament while Coach Kim Stephens is 6-1 all-time with two Tournament Championships (2018 and 2019).

West Virginia State comes into the game after defeating West Liberty, the No. 9 seed, in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, 64-54.

The Matchup

This will be the third matchup in 2019-20 between the two schools with GSC winning both previous this season (127-91 and 125-91). This will be the fourth matchup in the MEC Tournament between GSC and WVSU. The Lady Pioneers are 3-0 with the latest victory coming in last year's tournament with GSC winning 105-86.

Since taking over as Head Coach at her Alma Mater, Kim Stephens is undefeated against West Virginia State. Since 2016, GSC has outscored WVSU 1,057 to 698 in nine meetings. The Lady Pioneers have also scored over 100 points in eight out of the nine meetings.

Lady Pioneer & Yellow Jacket Highlights

GSC is led by Re'Shawna Stone, All-MEC First Team, and Zakiyah Winfield, All-MEC Second Team. Zakiyah leads GSC in scoring with 17.9 points per game while she also shoots 61% from the floor. Stone leads the team in assists with 2.6 per game and is scoring 17.8 points per contest. 

WVSU is led by All-MEC Honorable Mention, Charity Shear, s who is averaging 16.7 points per contest. She is also walking away with 1.4 steals per game. Chloe Cheresne is second in on the team in scoring averaging 12.7 points per game.
