Glenville, W.Va. – No. 16 Glenville State (4-1) claimed victory over Wheeling University (3-2) by 49 points, 123-74.
In the contest, six Lady Pioneers scored in double-digits including
Taychaun Hubbard who tallied a double-double scoring 17 points and 10 steals.The 10 steals tied an MEC record for most steals in a game and set a new record for 10 steals in an MEC contest.
How It Happened
First Quarter:
The Lady Pioneers got on the board first gaining a 12-6 lead going into the first media timeout. Vendela Danielson then connected with
Taychaun Hubbard after the pause for a three ball following a tear drop from
Victoria Brown.
Dazha Congleton and
Zakiyah Winfield added two from the stipe then sunk a layup to end the half leading the Cardinals 29-14.
Second Quarter:
Hubbard then found Mitchell for another three ball to start the second then
Mashayla Cecil added a layup.
Down the stretch, Glenville State entered a 28-8 run including three balls from Re'Shawna Stone,
Taylor Smith and
Jada Mitchell.
Glenville State sent Wheeling to the locker room trailing 70-33 as Winfiled sunk two layups to end the quarter.
The Blue and White shot 49.1% from the floor and forced the Cardinals into 22 turnovers in the half. Wheeling University shot just 34% from the floor and 30% from behind the arc.
Third Quarter:
Opening up the second half, both teams would trade baskets evenly until Winfield, K. Peirce and Hubbard all tallied shots from the stripe to separate in the quarter.
Mitchell continued to add to the Blue and White score with a three ball then Congleton found
Abby Stoller to sink a tear drop.
Wheeling ended the quarter by going on a short 7-0 run but could not keep up with Glenville as the Pioneers lead 97-56 going into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter:
Victoria Brown then hit the century mark in the fourth to turn on a short 8-0 run before the Cardinals sunk a basket from deep.
Abby Stoller then tallied five points with Jada Micthell following behind with three.
Zephaniah Gray sunk the last basket of the contest to defeat the Cardinals 123-74.

Glenville State finished the game shooting 44.6% from the floor and 10-for-38 from behind the arc while bringing down 63 rebounds. The Lady Pioneers turned 45 points off turnovers while also scoring 28 fast break points.
Zakiyah Winnfield tallied game high 23 points and 22 rebounds and five steals.
Following behind was Re'Shawna Stone with 22 points shooting 9-for-15 from the floor and tallying five rebounds and three assists.
Jada Mitchell,
Vendela Danielsson and
Dazha Congleton also tallied double digits scoring 13, 11 and 11 points respectively.
Wheeling University shot just 39% from the floor and 47% from deep scoring 40 on court points. The Cardinals were lead by Lilly Ritz with 20 points and 16 rebounds.
