GLENVILLE – Coach
Mike Kellar's GSC Football team is back on the road this week, playing in one of the program's most important rivalry games; the "Barrel Classic" against neighboring Alderson Broaddus.
Glenville is coming off a hard-fought loss to league leader Charleston, in which the Pioneers battled the Golden Eagles to a 20-9 defeat. GSC moved the chains throughout the afternoon, rushing for 233 yards, and winning the first down tally, 20-15.
Going to A-B, the Pioneers enter with a 1-4 overall mark; with all of the games in the league. The Battlers enter at 0-6, 0-5 in the MEC.
Glenville's running game has been spearheaded by improved offensive line play and the running of
Alfred Menjor, who rushed for 135 yards on 21 carries against Charleston, and has now tallied 348 yards on 82 carries for the season.
Javon Butler has been the team's top receiver with 25 catches for 349 yards.
Defensively, linebacker
Seth Arnold has been the team's tackle leader with 47 total tackles, five of which for loss.
Brandon Penn leads the MEC in interceptions per game with five total, and
Jonathan St. Jacque leads in quarterback sacks with five.
Shaun Sterling has produced a strong season with 31 tackles, two for loss, and two interceptions.
Game time is set for 1:00 Saturday afternoon in Philippi, at ABU's Multi-Sport Performance Stadium.
