GLENVILLE – Glenville State College celebrated Homecoming festivities on Saturday, but the nationally ranked Notre Dame squad rained on the party. The Falcons methodically powered their way to a 34-14 victory at Morris Stadium.
Reece Perkins scored the first touchdown of the day, corralling a 37-yard pass from Chris Brimm at the 8:24 mark of the first quarter. The Falcon advantage extended to 10-0 in the first minute of the second quarter on a 20-yard field goal from Tanner Harding. The score pushed to 17-0 in the next munute, as Nathan Moore raced in from 18 yards with an interception with 13:34 remaining in the half.
Glenville got on the board with 1:33 left in the second quarter, as
Tim Heltzel found
Javon Butler from 24 yards. Unfortunately for GSC, the Falcon advantage extended back 17 points before the half, as Brimm found Devanaire Conliffe from 29 yards, with only 22 seconds left before intermission.
Notre Dame tacked on 10 more points in the third quarter, extending the lead to 34-7. Brimm scored on a three-yard run, and Harding added another field goal.
Alfred Menjor scored on a three-yard run in the fourth quarter to close the scoring plays for the day.
Zay Huff led the Glenville rushing attack ith 48 yards on four carries, while Menjor ran for 38 yards on 19 carries. Heltzel was 10-of-24 through the air for 163 yards, with Butler serving as the primary target, catching six passes for 112 yards.
Defensively,
Seth Arnold led the GSC defense with a season-high 17 tackles. The junior linebacker also recorded a fumble recovery and two tackles for loss.
Isaiah Macklin added nine tackles and
Ellis Lilly eight.
Idris Lawrence led Notre Dame with 70 yards on 18 carries, while Brimm was 18-of-30 through the air for 257 yards.
Notre Dame improves to 7-1 overall, and 6-1 in the Mountain East Conference. Glenville falls to 2-5.
Coach
Mike Kellar's Pioneer squad returns to action next Saturday, traveling to West Virginia State. Kickoff is set for 1:00.
