GLENVILLE – Coach
Mike Kellar's Glenville State College Pioneers hit the road this weekend in Mountain East Conference football action, traveling to face the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets in Institute. This will be State's second game in their newly renovated Lakin-Ray Field.
Glenville enters the game with a 2-5 record, and boasting one of the league's top running games. GSC is averaging 137.6 yards per game on the ground, with
Alfred Menjor leading the way with 577 yards on 126 carries and five touchdowns. Menjor leads the MEC in yards per game. Senior
Javon Butler is the team's top receiver with 32 catches for 472 yards.
Defensively, the Pioneers are second in the league against the rush, allowing only 101.3 yards per game. Linebacker
Seth Arnold leads the league with 71 total tackles, nine of which have been for loss and is tied for the MEC lead with two fumble recoveries.
Brandon Penn is tied for the league lead with five interceptions, while
Jonathan St. Jacque leads the team with five quarterback sacks.
With the GSC special teams, punter
Avery Book leads the MEC with a 41.1 average. Kicker
Josh Jones has booted a league-leading nine field goals.
State enters the game tied for fifth in the MEC standings, holding a 4-4 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the league.
