GLENVILLE – It is early in the season, but one of the MEC's titanic matchups is already upon us!
 
On Tuesday afternoon, one of the marquee games in women's basketball will be taking place in the Waco Center. Glenville's Lady Pioneers and the University of Charleston Golden Eagles square off in a battle of ranked teams, and also traditional rivals.
 
These two teams were picked atop the MEC preseason coach's poll, with Glenville in the one spot, and Charleston the two. Currently, GSC is ranked third in the region, and UC sixth. Both schools were also nationally ranked in the D-II preseason poll; GSC 14^th and UC 17^th. However, Charleston currently owns bragging rights, defeating Glenville in two of the teams' three meetings last season, including the MEC Tournament Final.
 
Charleston is currently 3-1 on the season, posting wins over Mercyhurst, Livingstone, and their conference opener against Concord. Their lone loss was to regional power California University of Pennsylvania. Glenville is 3-0, with non-conference wins over Bloomsburg, West Chester, and Johnson C. Smith.
 
Re'Shawna Stone has been the top scorer for GSC at 20.2 points per game, followed by Zakiyah Winfield at 17.7. Abby Stoller leads the team in rebounding at 9.7 rebounds per game. Winfield has posted a team-high 11 assists.
 
Tip-off is set for 2:00 on the Waco Center's McPherson Court.
