MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Just two years ago, late in 2019, Glenville State College made the decision to bring back wrestling…they did not get a coach hired until March of 2020.
On Friday night, just 21 months later, the Pioneer Wrestling program was on the floor of the WVU Coliseum, battling the Mountaineers!
GSC Head Coach
Dylan Cottrell and his Pioneer squad battled WVU hard. Cottrell, WVU's first Big 12 Champion, was proud of his team's performance. Only two weight classes were lost by pin, as WVU produced a 40-3 victory.
Glenville's
Jordan Williams recorded a victory at 197. The nationally ranked local star from Little Birch continues to make his mark. One of the GSC losses by pin was
Cole Houser at 184, but he was holding a 4-1 lead before getting pinned on a reverse move. Several other GSC losses were by close decision;
Devin Easton at 133,
Ethan Hardy at 141,
Gavin Quiocho at 149, and
Hunter Delong at 174.
While it was a decisive victory for WVU, it was a strong night for the movement forward of the GSC program.
