Glenville's wrestling team continued to make its mark on the D-II landscape Saturday, winning four out of five matches at the Carolina Clash, hosted by Lander University.
The largest victory for Coach
Dylan Cottrell's squad on the day, was the 27-14 win over MEC foe UNC-Pembroke. The Braves entered the tournament ranked 12th in the nation!
Glenville also recorded match wins over Mt. Olive (40-9), Lincoln Memorial (49-6), and Kentucky Wesleyan (45-9). Their lone loss on the day was to the host Lander squad 14-29.
Individually,
Cole Houser (184) and
Gavin Quiocho (149) both went 5-0 on the day. Heavyweights
Gavin Shamblin and
Luke Martin split time, going 3-0 each. Shamblin's victory in the Lander match was over the #14 ranked wrestler in the nation in that class.
Three GSC wrestlers went 4-1 on the day;
Hunter Jones at 165,
Hunter Delong at 174, and
Jordan Williams at 197. Williams' victory day n the Pembroke match was the marquee win of the day,as it was over a Brave wrestler that was ranked 7th in the nation.
Coach Cottrell's surging Pioneers return to action next Saturday, traveling to face Cottrell's alma mater.... WVU!
