Glenville, W.Va. –  The No. 14/17 Glenville State Lady Pioneer basketball squad is set to take on the West Liberty Hilltoppers on Thursday (March 4) at 11am in the MEC Tournament Quarterfinals in Wheeling, Wet Virginia at WesBanco Arena.

Glenville State is the No. 2 seed in the south after going 10-2 this past season. West Liberty is the No. 3 seed in the north after finishing 8-8 overall.
This is just the second matchup all-time in the MEC Tournament between the Lady Pioneers and Hilltoppers. GSC won the first meeting back in 2019 in the Semifinals 98-85.
Since taking over as Head Coach in 2016-17,
Kim Stephens and the Lady Pioneers are 11-0 against West Liberty. Glenville State is also 13-3 all-time in the Tournament and has an 81-win percentage with four Tournament Titles (14, 18, 19, & 20).
GSC is looking to win their fourth straight Tournament Title.
This is the eighth year in a row that the Lady Pioneers have made it to the MEC Quarterfinals.
West Liberty is led by Olivia Belknap as she is 7
th in the league in scoring averaging 19.6 points per contest. Her highest scoring game came against Frostburg State on February 24 when she dropped 40 points.
The Hilltoppers are fifth in the MEC in Scoring Offense averaging 77.8 points per game while the Lady Pioneers lead the league and nation in scoring with 100.4 points per game.
West Liberty is fourth in Scoring Defense holding opponents to just 70.6 points per contest.

Glenville State has two players in the top 10 in the league in scoring with
Zakiyah Winfield (sixth) averaging 20.4 points per game and Re'Shawna Stone (10
th) averaging 17.3 points per game.

Winfield is also averaging 8.3 rebounds per contest which is fifth best in the MEC.
