Columbus, OH – Tiffin's Aarion Nichols layup ended the Lady Pioneers season with expired time as the Dragons defeated Glenville State 85-83 in the NCAA Tournament.
How It Happened
First Quarter:
Zakiyah Winfield dropped the first bucket for the Lady Pioneers foricing a 10-4 lead with a quick three ball from
Taychaun Hubbard.
Then
Mashayla Cecil hit two long ball threes to put the Lady Pioneers ahead by double digits.
The Tiffin Dragons then entered a 9-3 run to cut their deficit 25-19 ending the first.
Second Quarter:
Then starting the second,
Abby Stoller would get a steal allowing
Dazha Congleton to sink a tear drop.
Jada Mitchell then connected with Re'Shawna Stone for another layup as GSC held their ten-point lead.
Then the Blue and White would go on to extend their lead to 13 points as Hubbard and
Kaylee Pierce added two layups to GSC lead.
Going into the half Glenville State led 47-34 shooting an effective 52.4% from the floor while netting four, three pointers. Tiffin on the other hand shot just 33% from the field and 1-for-3 from deep.
Third Quarter:
Tiffin tallied a quick four points starting the second half as Congleton netted a three-point conversion with Stone following with another.
From there Tiffin began to open a short 5-0 run pulling within five at 47-52 but did not settle for the Blue and White.
Hubbard then suck a layup lighting Winfield and
Vendela Danielsson up for two big three balls extending their lead back to doubles ending the third 65-55.
Fourth Quarter:
Throughout the contest GSC held a ten-point lead until the fourth, the Lady Pioneers began to make separation starting with a layup from
Abby Stoller.
Hubbard added a freebie at the stripe with another layup from Stoller as GSC extended their lead 72-57.
Then with 5:25 on the clock, Winfield picked up a three-point conversation at the stripe with K. Pierce shadowing a three ball from deep to lead 79-61.
The Dragons would go on an 18-0 run pulling back within two (79-77) with 2:45 remaining on the clock.
With under two remaining both teams would tie the contest three times before Tiffin's Aarion Nichols would sink a layup at the buzzer. The Pioneers would fall 85-83 as the Dragons will go on to the NCAA Sweet 16 Championship.

Glenville State shot more effectively than Tiffin University with 48.5% from the floor and 6-for-10 from deep. The Lady Pioneers forced the Dragons into 21 points converting 35 into points with 16 second chance points and 24 fast break points.
Zakiyah Winfield led the pack with 22 points on the night with three assist, two steals and six rebounds.
Mashayla Cecil shot 4-for-9 from deep netting 12 points as
Dazha Congleton pitched with 11 while also taking two steals from the Dragons.
Re'Shawna Stone chipped in with 14 shooting 3-for-3 at the stripe and connecting three assists.
