Pioneers Knock Off Falcons Securing Semifinal Spot

Wheeling, W.Va. –  John Williams and Hegel Augustin both picked up double-doubles lifting Glenville State past Notre Dame College, 83-68. The Pioneers now advance to the MEC Semifinals, March 6 at 8:00pm as the wait the winner of the Concord & West Liberty.
 
How It Happened
 
First Half:
 
John Williams netted the first nine points for Glenville State holding a short 9-7 lead going into the first media break.
 
Continuing to trade baskets, Nick Edwards on the fast break sunk two, three-point hoppers with Hegel Augustin adding two free shots at the stripe.
 
Notre Dame would trade the lead back and forth with Glenville State before both Seth Fallon and Augustin would net two shots from deep holding a small four-point lead.
 
Stretching the half, GSC Hoops held a six-point lead for over three minutes of play until Tommy Williams netted a three ball off a NDC turnover. This would add to the Pioneers 8-0 run with under two minutes remaining, landing a 41-30 lead.
 
J. Williams then made a layup to end the half as GSC led 43-32.
 
In the half, both teams shot respectively similar where GSC shot 43% from the floor and NDC rounded 42%. From deep Glenville State was 8-for-19 where Notre Dame was just 3-for-11.
 
Second Half:
 
Quickly adding to their score, J. Williams opened the half with a driving layup followed by a three ball from Augustin leading 50-38.
 
Sustaining a ten-point plus, the Pioneers then entered a five-minute scoring drought before the Falcons pulled within singles. Ending the drought was Nick Edwards sinking a layup in the paint as GSC led just 58-51 (10:25).
 
J. Williams then connected with Zane Desouza netting a three ball from the right corner with Adrian Scarborough netting a short layup from Hegel Augustin.
 
Keeping another short four-point lead, Edwards picked up another pair from the stripe as Desouza then linked with Augustin for a BIG three pointer extending GSC's lead to seven.
 
The Pioneers then stretched their hold to doubles after J. Williams netted another big shot three ball.
 
Then with under two remaining in the contest, Edwards shot 2-for-2 at the line with Augustin adding a layup in the paint off another NDC turnover.
 
Inside The Box Score
 
Both teams held similar stats from the floor, from deep and at the stripe as GSC maintained their 43% from the halfway break while also shooting 67% from the line. Both teams shot 35% from deep as GSC was 12-for-34 and NDC was 6-for-17.
 
Glenville State was lead by John Williams as he wracked up 31 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
 
Following J. Williams was Hegel Augustin who also picked up another double-double on the season with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Augustin tallied three steals in the contest while also adding four assists.
 
Nick Edwards also scored in double-digits with 16 points and seven rebounds while also shooting 4-for-4 from the stripe.
 
The Pioneers then took the contest 83-68 advancing to the MEC Semifinals.

The Pioneers await their opponent of the winner of the West Liberty/ Concord matchup and will face off Saturday March 6th at 8:00pm
