SOUTH EUCLID, OH – Glenville's wrestling squad took a strong step forward Thursday afternoon, wrestling a pair of MEC powers. Coach Dylan Cottrell's Pioneers battled both West Liberty and Notre Dame at triangular event hosted by the Falcons.
In the day's first action for the Pioneers, GSC took on the Hilltoppers, the #3 ranked team in the nation. Despite giving up two weight classes due to injuries, GSC captured three of the eight matches contested. While West Liberty prevailed 36-14, Glenville captured victories from Alec Fulwider at 125, Ethan Hardy at 141, and Tristan Pugh at 157.
Later in the day, GSC faced the hosts, and produced an impressive 25-18 victory over the Falcons. Cottrell's team snagged six victories in the match; Hunter DeLong (174) by Fall, Jordan Williams (197) by Major Decision, and Hardy (141), Gavin Quiocho (149), and Cole Houser (184) all by Decision. Fulwider took the win at 133 by Forfeit.
For the day, Fulwider and Hardy added 2-0 marks to their overall season record. As a team, GSC improves to 15-7 overall.
Glenville will have their final action before the conference championships this Saturday. They travel to Washington & Jefferson to compete in the Jim White Duals.
